From the families themselves

"After my father passed away, we spent nearly two weeks going through boxes looking for his land title. I wish we had the Locator Map before that happened. The visit itself was unobtrusive — Siti Lina sat with us for a couple of hours, and the map she produced the following week was genuinely useful. Nothing fancy, just a clear one-pager that told us where everything was."

"We used the Heirloom Storage Survey for our family's collection of porcelain and old photographs. The survey itself was thorough — two sessions, good notes, a few practical suggestions about where we were storing things in the humidity. My only comment is that I had expected the second session to go a bit deeper into one cabinet we have, but that was a communication issue on my end, not theirs. The written report was well-organised."

"The Memory Project ran for four months and covered my grandmother's side of the family mainly. Rajan was patient and handled the conversations gently — my grandmother is 82 and can take time to get to the story she wants to tell. The final book was printed well and the family has already made a few extra copies. It is something we will keep."

"My mother was quite sceptical that a two-hour visit would produce anything useful. She was wrong. The folder index was something she could actually use — she has referred to it three times in the month since the visit. The practitioner was also clear about what was not being done, which I appreciated. No interpretation, no advice. Just the map."

"We used the Heirloom Survey specifically because my aunt's home had things stored in conditions that worried me — humidity, direct sunlight on some pieces. The written recommendations were sensible and actionable. No one tried to tell us what any object was worth, which was exactly the right call. The survey photographs were clear and gave us a reference point we did not have before."

"We booked the Memory Project and spread the payments across the four months, which worked well for the family budget. The monthly visits became something my parents genuinely looked forward to — they had not spoken at length about some of these things in years. The book is sixty-three pages and covers three generations. I think the fee was fair for what we received."

Case Studies

Detailed accounts of three engagements

Case Study 01 · Document Locator Map

A household in transition after a bereavement

The Situation

A family in Subang Jaya needed to locate estate documents following the death of a parent. Documents were distributed across three rooms, several filing systems, and some envelopes with no labelling. The family estimated they had spent twelve hours searching before the visit.

The Engagement

A single Document Locator Map visit was scheduled within four days of the enquiry. The practitioner spent two hours and fifteen minutes on-site, working through each location with the family. The map and index were delivered five working days later.

The Outcome

Seven document categories were mapped. The family located the relevant title deeds within twenty minutes of receiving the map. They subsequently booked the Heirloom Storage Survey for the same property six weeks later.

"The map itself is kept on the noticeboard in the study now. That sounds small, but it means anyone in the family can find what they need without searching."
Case Study 02 · Heirloom Storage Survey

A Petaling Jaya home with mixed-era storage

The Situation

A household had heirloom objects stored across five different areas of the property — a mix of open shelving, enclosed cabinets, and a room with inconsistent ventilation. The family was concerned about humidity damage but had not previously catalogued the locations.

The Engagement

Two sessions were conducted over separate weeks. The first session covered the main living areas; the second focused on a back room and a storage cupboard. The written survey with photographs was delivered ten days after the second session.

The Outcome

Twenty-three storage locations were documented. Three specific relocation recommendations were made in the written report. The family acted on two of them within the first month. The survey has since been used as a reference by the family's insurance contact — though that was the family's own initiative, not a Pebblehearth function.

"The photographs made a difference. We had not previously had a way to show someone else what we had or where it was."
Case Study 03 · Multigenerational Memory Project

A three-generation household in Shah Alam

The Situation

A family with three generations living across two properties in Shah Alam wanted to create a lasting record of their grandmother's account of the family's history. Old photographs existed but were scattered and largely unscanned.

The Engagement

Monthly visits over four months, primarily at the grandmother's property. Recorded conversations with the grandmother, her daughter, and two grandchildren. Approximately 140 photographs scanned across the engagement. Draft memory book reviewed with the family in month four.

The Outcome

A sixty-seven-page memory book was produced and printed. Four copies were made at the family's request. All original photographs were returned and remain with the household. The grandmother noted that the recorded conversations had given her a chance to speak about things she had not discussed before.

"The process of sitting with someone and being asked the right questions turned out to matter as much as the book itself."
